NIE Number

You'll need a Spanish NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) to open a bank account, buy property and complete many official processes. Apply at the Spanish consulate in the UK before you move.

Post-Brexit Customs

Personal effects moved to Spain require a UK export declaration and a Spanish import customs form (DUA). Removal relief may allow duty-free import if you've owned items for 6+ months.

Residency Registration

UK citizens living in Spain must register on the Padrón Municipal at their local town hall (Ayuntamiento). This is required for accessing healthcare and many public services.

Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are outside the EU customs territory. Moves to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura have different customs rules and require separate freight arrangements.

How long does a removal from the UK to Spain take?
Moves to northern Spain (Barcelona, San Sebastián) take approximately 2 days. Moves to Madrid or the Costa Blanca take 2–3 days. Southern Spain (Málaga, Marbella) and the Balearic Islands take 3 days. We comply fully with EU drivers' hours rules.
What customs documents do I need for Spain?
You'll need a UK export declaration, a detailed inventory of all items (lista de bienes), and a Spanish import declaration. If applying for duty-free removal relief, you'll also need proof of residency (or application for it) and documentation showing the age of your belongings.
Can you move to the Canary Islands?
Yes, but it requires a different approach. We would transport your goods to mainland Spain or a UK port, then arrange specialist freight to the islands. The Canaries have their own customs regime, which we'll explain during your quote.
Do you move pets to Spain?
We don't transport pets, but we can advise on licensed pet relocation services. Pets moving to Spain from the UK require an animal health certificate, microchipping and up-to-date rabies vaccinations.
